SureNail is Owens Corning's patented technology featuring a tough, woven-engineered reinforcing fabric built into the nailing zone. It provides 42% better nail pull-through resistance than standard shingles and enables a 130 MPH wind warranty with just 4 nails. The fabric also creates a visible nailing strip for more accurate installation.
What's the difference between Duration FLEX and Duration STORM?
Both achieve Class 4 impact resistance but through different technologies. Duration FLEX uses SBS polymer-modified asphalt that creates a flexible, rubberized shingle. Duration STORM uses patented WeatherGuard® Technology with an integrated polymeric backing. Both provide excellent hail protection and may qualify for insurance discounts.
Is Oakridge or Duration better for my home?
Duration shingles offer superior wind resistance (130 MPH vs 110 MPH) thanks to SureNail Technology, plus they have better impact ratings. Oakridge is an excellent value choice with proven performance. For Texas weather with frequent hail, we typically recommend Duration FLEX or STORM for their Class 4 impact rating.
How long do Owens Corning shingles last?
Duration shingles have an expected lifespan of 30+ years with proper installation and maintenance. All Duration and Oakridge shingles come with a Limited Lifetime Warranty and 10-year Tru PROtection period covering both labor and materials.
Will Class 4 shingles lower my insurance?
